Patients often have internal venous lines that need treatment and management, between chemotherapy sessions.

This initiative was born out of patient need, following a conversation with a patient who was undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Prior to the commencement of this service, local patients, who are often unwell and fatigued, were having to travel to Winchester or Basingstoke for management of these venous lines.

The advantage of the Hospice offering ‘Line Care’ is that local patients can access our service, local to their own home, at a time that is convenient to them. We often have patients who will pop in for appointments in the evening as this fits in with family or working patterns.

We are also able to offer this service 7 days a week and will also take bloods, disconnect chemotherapy and give injectable medication if required. This hugely supports local people, who are unwell and vulnerable. Feedback from patients is extremely positive, they appreciate the convenience and locality of the service.
