Sue Ryder Grief Kind Spaces – a safe, informal and supportive place

We are pleased to be supporting the opening of a Sue Ryder Grief Kind Space which will be held at the hospice every Tuesday from 10am until 12pm from 21 May.

What is a Grief Kind Space?

Sue Ryder’s Grief Kind Spaces are weekly, in-person drop-in sessions held in the local community and run by trained volunteers. The sessions provide a safe, informal and supportive place for people to come together and share their experiences of grief, helping attendees to feel heard and less alone.

The sessions are welcoming, inclusive and open to anyone who is over 18 and has experienced a bereavement, whether you want to attend regularly to connect with others in similar situations or just drop in for a quick chat.

“At the space you’ve suddenly got a license to share your feelings. It’s just talking. You can come and say nothing, or you can say everything, because it’s okay either way. It has given me the opportunity to talk with people who know exactly what you are going through.” Terry, (not their real name) regularly attends a Sue Ryder Grief Kind Space

A new Grief Kind Space for Andover

The Space at the hospice is the first to be held in the Andover area and is a collaboration between the Countess of Brecknock Hospice and Sue Ryder.

  • Every Tuesday (from 21 May)
  • 10am – 12pm
  • Countess of Brecknock Hospice, Brecknock House, Henry Gamman Drive, Charlton Road, Andover, SP10 3LB

The spaces are volunteer-led, with volunteers receiving training and guidance to help attendees connect with each other and share their experiences of grief through peer-to-peer support.

Formal bereavement support

Grief Kind Spaces is not a counselling service. Anyone seeking more formal support can use Sue Ryder’s existing Online Bereavement Counselling Service and other support services or speak to a member of staff at the Countess of Brecknock Hospice for details of local support.
