Ready, Steady, Glow!

On Saturday, 22 June, nearly 160 enthusiastic walkers lit up the night for the hospice on our 10@10 Late Night Walk, our biggest fundraiser of the year. This unique event, starting at 10pm and offering participants the opportunity to walk either five or ten miles around Andover, brought together individuals, teams, and families of all ages in a vibrant display of neon, fluorescent, and flashing accessories.

Lyndsey Eaton, whose mum was looked after by the hospice last year, said “After losing two amazing ladies in our lives in July and December 2023 we wanted to give something back to the amazing hospice and the staff that work there. The care and support they showed to both Lenie and Triena in their last days and our families was incredible and we will be forever grateful.”

After the event she said “What can I say! What an amazing experience last nights walk was! It may of been my first walk with you guys it most certainly won’t be the last walk! Thank you to the team for putting so much effort into keeping us safe and providing sweets and water all the way round as well as back at the school!”.

Michele Gard, Director of the Hospice Charitable Trust, shared her excitement about the event: “It was a fantastic evening with a great atmosphere. Many participants walked in memory of loved ones, wanting to ensure that care is available for others who need it. We lit up the night and shone for the hospice, which is such an amazing facility for our local community.”

We had lots of teams walking this year, including one from Charlton Hill Surgery and local solicitors Parker Bullen, who have made us their Charity of the Year. One of Parker Bullens team, Chris, was the first walker back overall, walking the route in a fantastic 2 hours and 25 minutes.

The 10@10 walk is a vital fundraiser for the hospice, with this year’s event expected to raise at least £25,000 through walkers’ sponsorships. Harrow Way Community School graciously hosted the event, and Stitch-A-Logo generously donated the T-shirts. We’d also like to thank Dunnings Funeral Directors for supplying our walkers water and Tesco Andover for supplying snacks for our walkers, allowing even more funds to go directly to supporting hospice services.
